A day after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh launched smart fencing project, Pakistan Rangers resorted to heavy firing on Border Security Force (BSF) patrol on the International Border (IB) killing a BSF jawan in Ramgarh sector of Jammu division.

The incident occurred at 10.40 am when a BSF party was on a domination patrol ahead of the fence. Pakistan Rangers resorted to heavy firing leaving one soldier dead.

Initially, the soldier was reported missing as he could not be traced given the topography of the area along the International Border. A comprehensive search operation was launched by the BSF parties to trace out the soldier. Later in the evening, the BSF parties’ were able to locate the body of the fallen soldier.

“A BSF party which was on domination patrolling ahead of Fence was fired upon. BSF troops immediately took position and retaliated but the enemy bullets hit a BSF jawan”, said a BSF spokesman at Jammu frontier.

The spokesman said the area on Pakistan side has a protective bandh close to International Border.

“Own side area is undulated, marshy and having thick sarkanda (elephant grass) growth. It made the immediate locating of the felled jawan difficult.  The situation was brought under control by BSF and ultimately the body of the BSF Jawan was recovered by late evening”, he said.

BSF troops are now busy in combing and clearing operation in the area. “Further action on clearing the area of any likely IED, booby-trap, etc being taken by BSF troops”, the spokesman said.

The cross border firing comes a day after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh launched state-of-the-art invisible electronic barrier system on the land, water, air and underground using infra red and laser alarm wall on the International Border (IB).

Set on the pattern of Israel, the two pilot projects of Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) of 5.5 kilometers each were launched by the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Jammu on Monday.

CIBMS is a foolproof integrated technological surveillance system comprising most advanced equipments including thermal imagers, infra-red and laser alarms to form an invisible wall on the borders.

Plus aerostats are deployed for aerial surveillance and ground sensors are discreetly installed to check infiltrations. Sonar system is deployed to secure unmanned rivers and nallahs on the borderline.

All these equipment will work in tandem and transmit data to the control room, which will alert the troops on ground in case any untoward activity is detected.
