Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's nephew Alishah Parkar tied knot on Wednesday in the city and later hosted a lavish party with great fanfare. The reception was held at Tulip Star hotel in Juhu, as the security agencies and city police kept a close watch amidst reports that Dawood might attend the event via video call.
Alishah, who was covered with garland and sehra, left his Madanpura residence at Mumbai Central and headed towards Rasool mosque at Nagpada for the nikah in a car. There was heavy entourage with Alishah's vehicle.
The marriage rituals started at around 11 am and the function lasted for about 90 minutes. Nearly 100 people, including close relatives and friends, attended the nikah.
Alishah, who is into construction business, got married to Ayesha Nagani from the Memon community, whom he has been seeing for some time. Nagani is daughter of a city-based businessman. The two had got engaged in February 2013.
"As per our information, some old associates of Dawood attended the event, which included a person into oil mafia," a source told dna.
"Only close relatives and friends known to both the families have been invited. Almost every household in Nagpada, Dongri and Bhendi Bazaar are aware about this marriage. After Aapa (as Alishah's mother and Dawood's sister Haseena Parkar is fondly known in the area), the closest member to attend the marriage would be Iqbal Kaskar (Dawood's younger brother)," said a man close to the Parkar family.
Bride and groom arrived at the hotel around 9.15 am in their vehicles and later the invitees started thronging in. The spacious Harbour Hall at the hotel has a seating capacity of over 2,500 people.
The police patrolling vans had been making regular rounds outside the hotel.
In 2005, Iqbal Kaskar had surrender before the UAE authorities after which he was deported. He was later booked under the MCOCA in Sara Sahara shopping complex scam. However, he was acquitted later.
Bhendi Bazaar and Dongri were once considered to be Dawood's den. Both Dawood and his confidante Chhota Shakeel were raised at their parental homes in Pakmodia Street in Bhendi Bazaar. Dawood's brother Iqbal Kaskar is currently staying in Pakmodia Street.
Dawood's eldest brother Sabir was shot dead in late 90s, while another brother Noora reportedly died of kidney failure in 2009. Humayun reportedly died due to cancer this year in Karachi. Dawood now stays with his other brothers Anees and Mustaquim in Karachi.
Alishah's elder brother Danish had died in a road accident in 2006, while his sister Umaira got married in May last year. Alishah's father Ismail was allegedly shot down by Arun Gawli gang in Mumbai central. Alishah's mother and Dawood's sister Haseena Parkar died in 2014 following a cardiac arrest.
"I am not aware if Dawood Ibrahim having communicated at the reception event via video-calling," joint commissioner of police, crime, Sanjay Saxena told dna.
