On Tuesday the home ministry was informed by the government that the current location of India's most wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was not known to them. In reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, the government responded that Dawood's extradition process will be initiated once his location is known.
Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said Dawood is an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case and a red corner notice has been issued against him.
While Dawood's current location remains unkown, here's a list of top 5 locations where he allegedly lived and carried out his underworld activities-
Dongri, Mumbai
This is said to be the birth place of Dawood Ibrahim as a don and his D Company. This is where his rivalry with the then Gold King Haji Mastan Mirza began. In Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia, Hussain Zaidi write about how Dawood formed his own group to fight against Mirza , which included Abu Bakr, Yusuf Khan, Ejaz Jinki, Aziz Driver, Abdul Muttalib, Sayyed Sultan, and Sher Khan.
Pakistan- Afghan Border
In a press conference held in November 2014, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that soon after the 9/11 attacks in the US Dawood shifted to Pakistan-Afghan border. According to the Home Minister, Dawood had been living in Pakistan and despite many requests, the neighbouring country had not handed over him to India.
Karachi, Pakistan
An Intelligence Bureau dossier said that Dawood lived in Karachi with his family. According to the report, his address was puported to be- The house - 6-A, Khayaban Tanzeem - which is located in Defence Housing Area (DHA), Phase V. This is one of the most upscale colonies in the city. Pakistan however denied that the don was living on their soil. The other address was near Moin Palace, Clifton where he lived with his family members.
Islamabad, Pakistan
In 2014, a western intelligence agency claimed to have recorded a phone conversation of Dawood. The audio recording showed Dawood talking about a business deal and reveals that he was in Islamabad. India's most wanted terrorist has been involved in narcotics, extortion, hawala, betting and match-fixing, besides running a thriving fake Indian currency notes racket. He was allegedly carrying out these businesses from Islamabad.
Dubai, Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman Metropolitan area
After the 1993 Mumbai blasts, Dawood had fled to Dubai. The same audio recording had revealed that Dawood was involved in real estate business in Dubai for several years.
