Congress leader Rajiv Shukla on Wednesday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government for not fulfilling its electoral promise of bringing back underworld don Dawood Ibrahim to India.

"This is what all the BJP leaders had promised to the nation before election that the moment the government would come they will bring back Dawood Ibrahim within fortnight, but the government is going to complete one year neither Dawood has come, neither Ibrahim has come," said Shukla.

Meanwhile, former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) joint director Shantanu Sen said that it was difficult to bring back Dawood and other criminals in the absence of an extradition agreement with Pakistan.

"With Pakistan there was no extradition agreement, but we could track them with our sources. But we could not go to Pakistan and arrest, we could not go to Dubai to arrest (Dawood)," said Sen.

Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary had yesterday informed the Parliament that Dawood's whereabouts are unknown and added that an extradition process can only be initiated after he is located.
