The tribal dominated Dangs district is set to host the state-level celebrations on the occasion of the 64th Republic Day on Saturday.
Governor Dr Kamla will unfurl the national flag at police parade ground in Ahwa, Dangs, at 9.00 am on Saturday. Chief minister Narendra Modi will also take part in the ceremony. The flag-hoisting will be followed by the governor reviewing the march past ceremony. A host of other events have also been organised as part of the celebrations.
The hosting of Republic Day’s state-level ceremony in Dangs is continuation of the government’s policy to hold important national celebrations at various places.
The chief minister had earlier announced that seven new districts and 22 talukas would come into existence in the state from the Republic Day. The state cabinet has given in-principle approval to the new districts and talukas, but it would take some more time before they formally come into existence.
Meanwhile, CM Modi dedicated or performed bhoomi-pujan of various projects entailing expenditure of Rs72 crore. He said that government is committed to developing Saputara as a tourist hub. He also addressed separate gatherings of youths and women during the day. A series of cultural programmes including tribal dance and songs were performed by local residents.
