Dance teacher strangles girlfriend before hanging self

A dance teacher hanged himself after strangling his girlfriend with an extension cord at his dance studio in South Delhi's Sainik Farms area in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Locals in the area saw Deepak More aka Sachin hanging from the ceiling fan through the window of the studio that faces main street and alerted the police at 10 am.

"When we reached the spot, the couple were dead for a couple of hours at least. We suspect the incident took place at least five-six hours prior to our arrival, however, more will be known after the postmortem," said Nupur Prasad, additional deputy commissioner of police (South).

According to the preliminary information, Sachin hailed from Indore and had been based in the capital since a little over two years. He taught hip hop among other styles to students at various studios across the city. Sources close to the couple alleged that Yogita, his girlfriend was his student at one of the studios he taught at in the Chattarpur branch. Sachin and Yogita had been dating since the past six months and their relationship was widely known to all.

Yogita, who worked odd jobs in the city was barely in her mid-20s and lived with her parents and sister in Chattarpur, whereas Sachin lived with his maternal aunt and cousins. Sachin is survived by his father who is a laborer in Indore, his mother and two younger siblings.

Based on statements given by the family, Yogita informed her parents that she was going to meet Sachin at the studio. Usually, she returned home, though sometimes she stayed over, which is why, perhaps her parents did not file a missing person's report when Yogita did not return last night.

According to a close friend, Sachin may have taken this extreme step since it is believed Yogita was to marry someone else.
