The alleged attack on a 17-year-old Dalit boy in Gujarat for growing a moustache was staged by the boy himself to garner publicity, a Hindustan Times report has said.

According to the report, the 17-year-old confessed to inflicting the wound on himself in the presence of two other minor friends for attention.

The police managed to solve the case quickly. It began with a Gandhinagar forensic  team telling the cops that no blade had been found at the spot where the boy claimed that he was attacked. The locals around the area also revealed that they witnessed no such crime.

Police then questioned the 17-year-old, who confessed to have inflicted the blade wound on himself with two other minor school friends.

“I was not attacked by anybody. I inflicted the injury myself with the help of friends just like that,” the minor told the daily but added that two earlier reports of attacks on Dalit men for sporting moustache. The boy also denied any pressure or threat.
