Dalit writer, thinker, Kirwale found murdered at his house

Kirwale stayed at Mhada Colony, Rajendra Nagar with his wife. He was a professor and the head of Marathi Department at the Shivaji Vidyapeeth Kolhapur, and had retired recently.

Eminent Ambedkarite and academician Dr Krishna Kirawale was found murdered in his own residence on Friday afternoon in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

Kirwale stayed at Mhada Colony, Rajendra Nagar with his wife. He was a professor and the head of Marathi Department at the Shivaji Vidyapeeth Kolhapur, and had retired recently.

According to the police, Kirwale was stabbed. His body was found lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom at around 4 pm on Friday by his wife. The police were informed by his wife. Police immediately reached the spot and started the investigation.

The police have identified Pritam Patil, a carpenter who had visited the house on Friday, as a suspect in the case. However, the reason of the murder is still unknown and the Kolhapur Police are on the lookout for Patil.

A murder case was being registered against Patil at the Rajarampuri Police Station of Kolhapur.

"We have identified the suspect and our efforts are on to nab him. He is absconding. The investigation is on and we are checking CCTV footage and recording the statements of family members and neighbours," said MB Tambade Supritendent of Police Kolhapur.

The police have drawn up a panchnama of the crime scene and sent the body for postmortem to a government hospital.

Meanwhile, other members of Patil's family who live in Pune have reached Kolhapur on being informed of his death.
