Kerala: Dalit priest preparing to perform 'maha yagna' stabbed in his home

A Dalit priest has been hospitalised after he was stabbed in Kerala's Palakad district. 

The priest has been identified as Biju Narayanan and is believed to be the first Dalit priest in the country.

Biju was stabbed on Wednesday by an unknown person. The incident took place when he was resting at his home early in the morning. He was immediately rushed to a medical college nearby. Doctors examined him and said his injuries were not critical and that he was out of danger. 

Biju a priest of the Mathrukula Dharma Raksha Ashram has received death threats in the past. A failed attempt to throw acid on him was also reported in in June.

Biju was preparing to perform the 'Maha Yagna' in December this year, that was to be attended by Dalit community. He has received many death threats in the past through phone calls and on Facebook messenger. 

A police complaint was registered alleging the involvement of RSS. However, no action has been taken so far. 

The attempt to throw acid on him was purposefully done as he was organising Veda classes for Dalits.
