If you are shocked by the unbridled aggression and lack of fear among the student leaders contesting the varsity polls, think again. The candidates who seem so eager to break the law and test the nerves of cops also fear for their lives and safety. Several frontrunners in the RUSU polls have reportedly hired bodyguards to secure themselves.
Sources told dna that leading candidates this year are being shadowed by two-dozen bodyguards.
“Student leaders have hired bodyguards who are being paid up Rs1,000 per day. “NSUI candidate Shefali Meena, ABVP’s Kanaram Jat and NPPSU candidate Rajesh Mandiya have reportedly hired these bouncers from local security agencies. They fear that they can be attacked by their opponents or their aides,” the source said.
When dna contacted the student leaders, they denied hiring any bodyguards. Shefali Meena said that she doesn’t have any security. “I haven’t hired any bodyguards. I am capable of securing myself. Those who are with me are the students from the university who may seem to offer me cover,” she said.
The candidates may have taken out a leaf from the past instances of attacks on students leaders. In the past, student leaders who went on to become RUSU presidents and were attacked, include Nagendra Singh Shekhawat, Mahendra Choudhary, Jitendra Meena and Somendra Sharma.
