Saturday’s Cyclone Phailin caused a lot of inconvenience to air and rail travellers as many of the flights were cancelled while few others were diverted.
According to records available with the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), one of the first few flights to be cancelled were Indigo flights 6E294 and 6E553 to Bhubaneshwar.
Similarly Jet lite flight S24061 , scheduled for Bhubaneshwar in the morning was also cancelled by the airline management. Another Jetlite flight S2 4845 scheduled to travel from Kolkata-Vizag-Bangalore-Mumbai was cancelled.
A Jet Airways flight (9W 2115) which was meant to fly to Raipur from Mumbai had to divert to Bhopal and then return back.
The officials added that the Indigo airline flight 6E 552 and Jetlite flight S2 4062 scheduled to take off from Bhubaneshwar during the afternoon and late evening respectively were also cancelled.
The airlines sent regular updates to the passengers about the development of their flight schedules .
The passengers who were affected due to the cancelled flights will not be charged for re-booking into a different flight or cancellation.
According to East Coast Railway, the 11019 CST Mumbai – Bhubaneswar Express which left CST Mumbai on 11.10.2013 (Friday) is partially cancelled between Rajahmundry and Bhubaneswar.
CR officials said that as of Saturday evening they had not cancelled any trains. The officials said CR would take a call according to the prevailing conditions and communication from both East Coast Railway and South Central Railway, the two zones that control the rail lines in the area where the cyclone will be making a landfall.
