Curtains formally came down on the 11-year-old Cross Line of Control (LoC) trade in Jammu and Kashmir, even as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) promised to revisit the issue of resuming the LoC trade after putting in place stricter mea-sures and systems. Around 35 trucks parked at the Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) Chakan da Bagh in Poonch were sent back as the authorities implemented the MHA order in letter and spirit on Friday.
“Trade has been suspended till further orders. Today 35 trucks were scheduled to cross into Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). But since MHA issued the order, no truck crossed over”, said Fareed Kohili, Custodian TFC Chakan da Bagh.
Pawan Anand, President Cross LOC Trade, Chakan Da Bagh, Poonch said goods worth Rs three crore were to be exported on Friday. “Around 360 traders are registered. There are 125 trucks involved in trade. Plus there are around 200 labourers and other work force. We have not lost hope because government has only suspended trade. Hope government will bring good policy and trade will resume”, said Anand. The cross LoC trade through Uri-Salamabad route had been suspended on March 8 because of the Kaman bridge repairs. “Three trucks loaded with textiles and parked at our TFC have now been told to leave because trade has formally been suspended”, said Ghulam Ahmad, Custodian TFC Uri.
