Curfew imposed after tension in Bundi in Rajasthan over damage of idol

Curfew was today imposed in Khanpur town in the district where irate mob attacked a police outpost and set ablaze a bus after an idol was found damaged in a religious place.
Tension erupted in the region yesterday after locals found the idol damaged, SP Bundi, Pankaj Choudhary said, adding, they reached Nainwa police station and gheraoed the outpost, prompting the police to use force to disperse them.
The mob pelted stones at Nainwa police station, injuring at least five policemen, ASP Sudhir Joshi said.
They also set ablaze a state roadways bus, he said, adding, no one was injured in the incident.
Section 144 of CrPC was imposed in the area last night and curfew was later imposed in the town after the situation deteriorated, Choudhary said.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, Joshi said, adding, the situation is under control.
Police have lodged cases against 30 to 35 persons under various sections including provoking communal violence and hurting religious sentiments and detained 16 people till now in this connection, SHO Badan Singh said.
