Less than 36 hours before Kashmiri militant commander Burhan Wani's first death anniversary, security forces carried out searches, enhanced vigil and increased deployment in possible trouble areas in the Valley. Social media and WhatsApp services were also blocked on Thursday till further orders to restrict mob mobilisation.

Over 20,000 personnel from central armed police forces like the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have been deployed for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and Wani's death anniversary. There are 214 companies deployed compared to 115 last year.

Tension is palpable in Tral, Wani's hometown nicknamed Kandahar of Kashmir, owing to the huge militant infestation ahead of his death anniversary on Saturday.

Hundreds of motorbikes have been seized and security forces are on the toes to avoid any law and order problem. "We are not taking any chances given the week-long programme announced by separatists", said a police officer.

For the last one year, Burhan's father Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, a principal in a government school, has been receiving guests making a beeline to condole the death of his son.

"Hardly any day has passed when I have not had guests since Burhan's death. I was receiving guests in thousands in the first few months. Later the number dropped to hundreds," said the father.

"And people have come from all parts of the Valley. Some came from Mumbai, too. Interestingly all these guests were not known to me," said Muzaffar.

"All security measures are in place to deal with any situation. There is intelligence about violence spreading and terrorists targeting security forces," said a senior official dealing with security arrangements.

The Yatra ends on August 18 but the additional deployment of forces is likely to continue keeping in mind the possibility of an unrest. Meanwhile, mobile internet and broadband internet has been blocked indefinitely in the Valley.
