Even before the wounds of lynching of DySP Mohammad Ayub Pandith could heal, terrorists struck again and attacked a CRPF vehicle, leaving an officer dead and another injured on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway at Pantha Chowk in the Srinagar outskirts on Saturday.

Lashkar-e-Taiba has claimed responsibility for the attack. Lashkar spokesman Abdullah Ghazavi issued a statement staking claim for the attack on the CRPF party near Delhi Public School at Pantha Chowk on Saturday.

The incident occurred when Road Opening Party (ROP) of the Alpha Company of 29th battalion of CRPF was withdrawing in the evening. Terrorists emerged near the highway and fired indiscriminately on the bus injuring two soldiers, including a sub-inspector (SI) and a driver.

Both the injured were shifted to the Army's 92 base hospital where the SI succumbed to his wounds. The slain SI has been identified as Sahab Shukla and the injured driver has been identified as Constable Nissar Ahmad.

Security forces have cordoned off the area as terrorists have fled towards the DPS complex after attacking the CRPF. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to track down the terrorists who are supposed to be hiding in the vicinity.

"Search operation is underway to track down the terrorists responsible for the incident," said Commandant Rajesh Yadav, CRPF spokesman at Srinagar.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti paid rich tributes to the Sub Inspector of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) who was killed in a militant attack. Mehbooba conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved family of the said officer. She has also wished speedy recovery to the jawans injured in the incident.

The incident has occurred a day after a lynch mob stoned a deputy superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir police Mohommad Ayub Pandith to death when he was performing the security duties at the historic Jamia Masjid during Shab-e-Qadr (night of prayers in Ramzan) on Thursday night.

The incident occurred just five days before the commencement of Amarnath Yatra. "A joint strategy to include operational and administrative arrangements was chalked out in great detail by all agencies to ensure peace and stability in the region and ensure incident free Yatra," said Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta, Defence spokesman at Jammu, after a high-level core group meeting to review security of yatra.

Analyisis

The lynching of a senior police officer is the latest in a trend that indicates how Kashmir’s political movement is now claiming its own people.
In their political fight, they now seem to be ready to embrace violence and tools popularised by barbaric organisations like the Islamic State.
The deranged mob of killers has not just shamed humanity and Kashmiriyat but also defiled Islam.
