Ahead of polling in Pulwama district in south Kashmir, militants on Wednesday carried out a grenade attack killing a CRPF assistant sub-inspector and wounding four security force personnel and three civilians.
Militants hurled a grenade at a security force party in village Pohu, 35 kms from Srinagar, at around 5.30 pm injuring three CRPF jawans, two policemen and three passers-by, police said, adding that the injured were rushed to a hospital where ASI Shamsher Singh of 183 battalion CRPF succumbed to injuries.
No militant outfit had claimed responsibility for the attack so far and the hunt had been launched to nab the ultras who escaped taking advantage of the panic caused by the blast, police added.
Pulwama is going to polls in the third round of 5-phased Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls on December 9.
