Creator of 'Bakarwadi' Bhausaheb Chitale passes away in Pune

Creator of the world-famous Bakarwadi as well as Chitale Milk brand Raghunathrao Bhaskarrao Chitale of Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale, who was fondly referred to as Bhausaheb Chitale, passed away after brief illness on Sunday in Pune. He was 95. Chitale is survived by two sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

Born in Limb Gove, a small village in Satara district on October 22, 1920, Chitale came to Pune and joined his father's milk business. In the 1950s Bhausaheb with his vision created the brand of Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale. He was also involved in starting various social and educational institutions.

Chitale's greatness lies in the fact that when state of Maharashtra after its inception gave boost to cooperatives, Chitale continued his private milk business with crores of rupees of turnover.

He headed the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali, which has statewide educational institutions including Ruia College, Sir Parshurambhau College and others for 12 years and was member of its governing council for three decades

in addition to being a member for four decades. He was the founder or starting member of Rotary Club of Pune South as well as Chitpavan Sangh, Janata Sahakari Bank, Grahak Peth in Pune in addition to Maharashtra Medical Foundation which has its own Joshi Hospital.

Bhausaheb Chitale was known for his philanthropy and never uttered a single word after donating lakhs and crores of rupees for social organisations and educational institutions as well as hospitals. Bhausaheb generously donated money for Koteshwar Devsthan in his native village as well as for building a Bhakta Niwas for devotees who visit Amba Jogai temple.

Stalwarts from educational field, sweets mart owners and various temple trusts attended the last rites and paid their respects to Bhausaheb.
