The West Bengal unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to protest recent bridge collapse incidents in Kolkata in a unique way and has roped its student wing for its implementation.

The Students' Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the CPI(M), will protest against the Majerhat Bridge incident by borrowing a leaf out of a Bollywood film. The SFI will give "Munnabhai therapy" to all the "ailing" bridges in Kolkata.

CPI(M) politburo member Biman Bose has given instructions to spread this "therapy" with immediate effect. SFI's West Bengal unit will go to 20 bridges in Kolkata and stick "GET WELL SOON" posters.

A portion of busy Majerhat Bridge collapsed in South Kolkata on September 4. Three people died in the disaster, and several were left injured. After the incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had expressed anxiety about the health of city's 20 bridges.

Santragachi, Tala, Sealdah bridges were in her list.

Significantly, all these bridges were built when the Left ruled the state. But as the opposition, the Left, especially CPI(M) does not want to lose the opportunity to attack the Trinamool Congress ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The strategy to protest was devised at the secretariat meeting at the party's West Bengal state office on Alimuddin Street.

"We have asked SFI to stick 'Get well Soon' posters on weak bridges of Kolkata," Politburo member Biman Bose told Zee news

"We are also worried but this government should be punished. This (TMC) government is playing with our lives," he said.

Another CPI(M) Central Committee leader MP MD Salim said, "This government does not have any idea about maintenance. They only have painted 'neel sada' (blue and white) colour on bridges".

SFI's leadership has already started its campaign in Munnabhai style. It has engaged only 4 or 5 to stick these posters on the city's bridges.

"We are just sticking these posters on weak bridges to wake this government," SFI West Bengal president Pratikur Rahaman said.

"Very soon we will send 'Get Well Soon' letter with a prescription to Chief Minister also," he said.

While the TMC government has put the blame of bridge collapse incidents on the Left as they were built during the previous regime, the opposition is not leaving any chance to attack Mamata Banerjee.

After the Majerhat Bridge collapse, the state government constituted a monitoring committee and is also planning a new law about bridge maintenance rules.

"We don't want to comment on Left as they do not have any existence in Bengal. Very soon, we are going to implement a new law. If any government builds a flyover, they also have to keep the maintenance of that bridge for 25year," state minister Firhad Hakim told Zee Media.

On Thursday, Hakim inspected several bridges in the city.
