The BJP on Friday strongly condemned objectionable remarks made by CPI(M) leader Anisur Rahman against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and asked the top Left party leaders to explain their colleague's unacceptable conduct.

"The CPI(M) leader's remarks against Mamata is insensitive and absolutely unacceptable," BJP national spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad told reporters here.

Describing Rahman's utterances as 'unpardonable,' he said, "The CPI(M) top guns like Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechuri should come forward and explain the party's stand on the remarks made by their colleague against Mamata and crack the whip against him," the senior BJP leader said.

Rahman had made an obscene remark against Banerjee during a public meeting yesterday that had created a stir in the political circles in the state and outside.

An infuriated TMC had threatened to slap a legal notice on Rahman and decided to bring a privilege notice against him in the state assembly.

The CPI(M) leader later apologised for his remarks against Mamata.
