Two persons were brutally thrashed by a group of 'cow protectors' in Noida on Thursday for allegedly transporting cattle.

The victims, identified as Jaibeer Singh (30) and Bhoop Singh (50), are residents of Sirsa Manjhipur. Ironically, the miscreants, after thrashing the victims, took them to the police station. But the cops didn't take action against anyone and allowed everyone to leave at that time. "Only after some pressure, did the police lodge an FIR," said Babu Chauhan, Jaibeer Singh Chauhan's brother.

According to Jewar police station in-charge, Ajay Kumar Sharma, an FIR has been registered against one Mahesh, Ashish, Ompal and five unnamed persons under Sections 147, 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC. "The accused fled the spot after the incident. We are looking for the them," he said.

Narrating the incident, Chauhan told DNA that the victims were coming with a cow and a calf they had bought from the Mehndipur area. "When they were tired, they sat under a tree. That is when some 'cow protectors' spotted them. Assuming that they were taking the cattle for slaughter, the miscreants thrashed them up."

The miscreants mobilised some more people and attacked them, he said. The two victims raised an alarm and told them that they were Hindus and that they were transporting cattle for personal use.

"The criminals, after thrashing them, took them the to police station. The victims narrated the entire incident. The police, with the intention of hushing up the case, allowed the criminals to leave," Chauhan claimed.

"Both Jaibeer and Bhoop Singh are contract workers. It appears some miscreants were outsiders as people in villages generally know each other," Chauhan said. Both the victims received internal injuries and fractures in their shoulders and ribs. They were rushed to a nearby private hospital but were referred to the Noida district hospital. The condition of Jaibeer is said to be critical.
