In a rare show of dissent, AIADMK mouthpiece Namadhu Amma on Friday published a poem criticising the BJP led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre for making Tamil Nadu into a land of protest and also warned that unity of the country would be at stake if the Centre didn't change its approach towards the state.

Written in the pen name of Chithirakupthan, the poem blamed the Centre's irresponsible approach towards the affairs of Tamil Nadu for the people taking up black flags to protest, in an apparent reference to the black flag protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Chennai on Thursday.

The poem also referred to the Centre's indifference to the issues pertaining to the state ranging from the exception sought from National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test to provide adequate relief for the cyclone Vardha that ravaged Chennai and adjoining districts. It also points to the poor response from the Centre to long drawn protest against the hydrocarbon extraction project at Neduvasal in Pudukottai district while BJP leader Subramanian Swamy provoking tension by asking Sri Lanka not to release the boats of arrested fishermen.

Referring to the state's complaint of falling share of funds from the Centre, the poem said, "Tamil Nadu is the second largest contributor in terms of tax revenue in the country. If you (Centre) are going to discriminate the state in the devolution of funds, it will only create dissatisfaction. There is also a delay in responses to whatever we ask. Moreover, the statements of Tamilisai (BJP state president) and H Raja (party national secretary) fuelling more tension. It will be good for the Centre of it changes the approach and acts proactively"

In a veiled warning, the poem said that if the Centre didn't change its approach, it would put the country's unity at stake. "Let the Lotus party understand that Tamils will not give up their self-respect," it says.

The strongly worded poem published in the ruling AIADMK's new launched mouthpiece criticising the Centre goes against the party's so-called cordial approach towards Modi government. Opposition parties, particularly, DMK has hit out at the AIADMK government for acting like salves of the BJP as it did not condemn the Centre for not constituting the Cauvery Management Board.

Interestingly, a poem published in Chithirakupthan name in the then AIADMK'S mouthpiece Dr Namadhu MGR, which was taken over by the VK Sasikala's faction of the party, criticising the BJP for trying to saffronise the state and destroying the AIADMK in August last year led to the dismissal of its editor Marudhu Azhaguraj. It was Azhaguraj who writes in the pen name of Chithirakupthan. Dr Namadhu Amma was launched on February 24, marking late chief minister J Jayalalithaa's birth anniversary and Azhaguraj was appointed as its editor.
