Corrupt Noida engineer produced in court

The agency had registered a case against Yadav Singh under Sections 409, 420, 466, 467, 469, 481 that deal with cheating, criminal conspiracy, forgery and under Prevention of Corruption Act.

Suspended Noida chief engineer Yadav Singh, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with several disproportionate asset cases, was produced before a special court in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday and remanded Singh in police custody for six days.

Earlier on Wednesday, Singh was summoned to the CBI headquarters in New Delhi where he was interrogated for several hours being formally placed under arrest. He was being investigated in a disproportionate assets case wherein he is suspected to have amassed a wealth to the tune of Rs 10,000 crores while in office.

The agency had registered a case against Yadav Singh under Sections 409, 420, 466, 467, 469, 481 that deal with cheating, criminal conspiracy, forgery and under Prevention of Corruption Act.

Following the Allahabad High Court order, CBI has been probing allegations of corruption against the engineer and members of his family since August 2015.

In September 2015, in an exclusive, dna accessed Yadav Singh's associate Ramendra Singh's diary that showed how Rs 127 crore were collected as bribes by senior bureaucrats of the Noida Authority. The diary also revealed the modus operandi of the duo wherein contractors who bagged projects through Yadav's influence were charged "10 paise for every Rs 100 worth of contracts." However, projects that were worth more than Rs 50 lakh, kickbacks of "5 paise for every Rs 100" was collected by Yadav Singh and his associates. According to Income Tax documents commission money was distributed to engineer in chief Yadav Singh, chief project engineer A K Goyal, Chief maintenance engineer M P Sharma, project engineer S C Misra, R S Yadav, Muhammad Israt, assistant project engineers and junior engineers.

Singh held many sensitive posts with the Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway authorities in last seven years and has awarded contracts worth Rs2,551.03 crore in his tenure running over seven years.

In November 2015, during a raid at his Sector 51 residence in Noida, IT officials unearthed a large sum of money, jewellery and property papers that could not be explained by Singh.
