Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, saying candidates are called corrupt when they are with his party, but become saints when they join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing a rally in Satana in Nashik district, Pawar said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi calls us corrupt. A few years ago, the BJP had disrupted the proceedings of the house over the allegations of corruption on NCP ministers. But today, those same corrupt people have become saints for them after joining BJP."

Pawar further said, “Over the allegations on Babanrao Pachpute and Gavit, BJP disturbed house proceeding for three days. We sidelined them, but BJP got them closer and even offered the ticket.”

Criticising Modi for the ongoing ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Pawar said, "Pakistan Rangers shelled along the international border, targetting 60 border outposts (BoPs), over 32,000 people have fled from their border homes. The neighbouring country is violating ceasefire, but our PM is campaigning just to elect an MLA."

The NCP chief also criticised Modi for not having a full-time defence minister in his cabinet.

Earlier, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray had also alleged that the BJP had imported more than 50 candidates for assembly polls from various parties and had also disclosed their names and constituencies.

A day ago, stepping up his attack on NCP chief Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the people of Baramati now need freedom from the uncle and nephew duo who have been ruling the political roost.
