In a bid to get 'maximum hits' on social media, a city boy, who runs a YouTube channel —The Crazy Sumit - uploaded a video of him sexually harassing and kissing women in Connaught Place area in the Capital in the name of a prank.

The video of his 'prank' has invited criticism and prompted Delhi Police to start an investigation into the matter. The Delhi police came to know about it when the video went viral on social media. Following which, the police has decided to register a case against the prankster. The video shows him walking up to women, kissing them and then running away. In one incident, he was chased down by a boy who was accompanying the woman he had kissed but the YouTuber was able to flee the spot.

The video triggered massive outrage, with many social media users questioning his obscene act, forcing the YouTuber to take down the video.

He later uploaded an 'apology' video where he claimed that he didn't mean to "hurt" the sentiments of people and that he "respects women" and is thankful to the viewers who have identified his mistake. Later, he also deleted the apology video.

Delhi police has now taken cognisance of the video and are probing the possible legal actions they can take against the accused.

"The video has come to Delhi Police's notice through media. We have started the initial technical inquiry. This obscene video is available on Facebook and YouTube links and we are probing this. We have also written the social networking sites to remove the video," said Dependra Pathak, Delhi Police Spokesperson and Joint Commissioner of Police (Southwest).

The video has now been taken down after widespread criticism on social media and its technical aspects such as details of service providers and criminal liability are being examined.

Police said they were looking forward to the women who were seen in the prank video to file a complaint, he said. "I think this kind of sexual perversion on social media is in the name of getting likes, online publicity and maybe even some money is involved in it," a senior officer said.

The youth who made the videos has been active on YouTube since 2015 and keeps posting prank videos. The Crazy Sumit has around 1.5 lakh subscribers.

"We are analysing the content of the apology. Every aspect is being looked into," the officer added.

Meanwhile, Swati Maliwal, Chief of Delhi Commission for Women, has slammed the "prank" video through her Twitter handle. "It's perversion not humour. An FIR should be filed immediately and strict action taken by police. His apology is of no consequence as it is an act of violence," Maliwal said.
