Mumbai: Wanted Gangster gunned down in encounter with Gurgaon police; 2 cops injured

The police sources say that when their team entered his room there was cross-firing between them and the accused Sandeep Gadoli.

Wanted gangster from Gurgaon Sandeep Gadoli on Sunday died after an encounter with the team of Crime Branch from Gurgaon in Andheri in Mumbai.

The firing took place at 11.00 am when the team from Gurgaon entered a hotel room in Andheri East and Gadoli began shooting.  

Gadoli and two constables were injured and taken to the hospital, however, the accused succumbed to his injuries.

"A team of Crime Branch Gurgaon Police reached the hotel to arrest the accused. There was a cross fire between them and the accused got injured. The accused was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries," Vinayak Deshmukh, DCP Mumbai Police said.

Gadoli had 36 serious offences against and carried a Rs 1.25 lakh cash reward on his head. He was wanted for several murders including the killing of municipal councillor Binder Gujjar’s driver in October 2015.

He was reportedly running an extortion racket which targeted well known businessmen and bribed the Gurgaon police to turn a blind eye to it. 

His aide Sonu was arrested in Mumbai last month for sexually harassing a model.
