Two policemen were injured after their motorcycle was hit by a car while they were chasing two bike-borne snatchers in Rohini.

The errant car driver was arrested and later released on bail, police said.

The injured policemen were Head Constable Dilip and Constable Narendra Kumar, who are posted at the Begampur police station. The constable was driving the motorcycle, with Dilip riding pillion.

According to a senior police officer, the two policemen were on evening patrolling in Sector-24 area. A woman approached them alleging that two men on a bike had tried to snatch her bag.

The snatchers sped away towards Pocket 22. The policemen began chasing them. As they reached outside the main gate of Pocket-22, a Swift car moving in the opposite lane suddenly took a U-turn and ended up hitting the two policemen.

The impact of the collision was such that the two policemen were tossed in the air before they landed on the road.

The policemen suffered severe injuries and were rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital. Since the head constable suffered serious head injuries, he was later shifted to a private hospital. His condition was stated to be critical.

A case was registered on the statement of the constable who was declared fit for statement by the doctors after treatment.
