Hours after Governor's rule was promulgated in the state, terrorists attacked a police patrol on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway injuring a policeman at Galander in Pulwama district. Tanveer Ahmad succumbed to his injuries.
The attack comes 24 hours after security forces dealt a major blow to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) by killing three terrorists in Tral.

"Terrorists fired at a police vehicle near Galandar. One policeman Injured and shifted to hospital. Search continues in the area. Information is preliminary," tweeted Kashmir Zone Police. The area was cordoned off soon after the attack and massive search has been launched to hunt down the attackers.

Reinforcements have been rushed to help the forces on the ground.

On Tuesday, three top JeM terrorists were killed at Hyena village in Tral area of south Kashmir's Pulwma district. Five security forces personnel also sustained injuries in the crossfire.

While pursuing credible leads regarding the presence of terrorists in Tral, the Army, CRPF and Police had jointly launched searches in Hyena on Tuesday afternoon. Terrorists fired on the joint search patrol, which subsequently retaliated leading to a shoot-out.

"All three terrorists were successfully neutralized by security forces," said a police spokesperson. "One of them has been identified as Qasim, a foreigner. It is learnt that Qasim was a top commander of the proscribed JeM terror outfit and involved in a series of terror attacks on civilians and security establishments in recent times."

This is the second time after the Ramzan ceasefire was called off that security forces killed terrorists in the state. Two were killed in one of the operations in the Panar forests of Bandipora district on June 18. Two terrorists and a soldier were killed on June 14.
