Controversial Islamic televangelist Zakir Naik, who is under the scanner of various central agencies, has received Rs 60 crore from foreign countries in the last three years.

According to Times of India, Mumbai police probe has found that the amount was transferred to five different accounts of Naik's family members from three different nations.

"We still don't know what this money was meant for. We have done an inquiry and found the money trail. The money was transferred to family members' accounts," the officer told the daily.

Naik's organisation Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) is also under the scanner. The Police are yet to question officials of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), but makes it clear that the amount belongs to Naik and not his NGO.

Naik has been 'indicted' by Mumbai Police which found him to be allegedly involved in unlawful activities with possible terror links. The Mumbai Police, tasked with probing his alleged provocative and controversial speeches, had submitted its report to the Maharashtra government. Naik has been facing heat over allegations of inspiring some of the attackers in the Dhaka terror attack through his speeches.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said a watertight case is being prepared against the Islamic televangelist and efforts would be made to extradite him. Naik is currently abroad.

Naik had a lengthy interaction with the Indian media via Skype from Saudi Arabia on July 15 and rubbished the charge that his sermons had inspired terror activity, including the Dhaka attack. He has ruled out returning to India this year and claimed his remarks were "blown out of context" and that he has never inspired any terror activity.
