A constable was seriously injured at Piproli village in the district after the local people attacked a police team that had gone there to arrest two suspected cattle thieves. The attackers also snatched two service rifles from the policemen.
Acting on a tip-off that Jabar Singh and Srikrishna, suspected to have stolen buffaloes, were hiding in the village, the police reached there on Sunday night and caught them, said Bhind superintendent of police Vineet Khanna. However, after getting wind of the arrest, villagers attacked the police team and freed the two men, he said.
Constable Rajendra Singh was seriously injured and was shifted to Gwalior for treatment, he said. After the incident, additional police force was sent to the village, but nobody had been arrested yet, the SP added.
