Constable arrested for molesting female colleague in West Bengal

A constable working with the Mangalkore camp in the district was arrested on Saturday after a female colleague accused him of molesting her, the police said.

Rajkumar Chattopadhyay was suspended from his duties a month ago following allegations of taking money in return of plum posting in the district and also disbursing official accommodation to police personnel of choice using his post as secretary of the police welfare board, said Abdul Gaffar, inspector in-charge, Burdwan police station.

A departmental inquiry was on against him, he said.

"A female constable has alleged that Rajkumar was trying to make advances towards her for sometime and on Friday, when she didn't respond and informed the matter to his wife, he threatened her with life.

"The constable lodged a complaint against Rajkumar today and he was arrested later in the day," the IC said.
