Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said Congress should clean their head of Modiphobia, after a district court rejected Zakia Jafri’s plea against Special Investigation Team closure report in 2002 Gujarat riots.

“Truth has prevailed and I give credit to the justice system,” said party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi.

Lekhi said the Congress is obsessed with BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and that’s why they are targeting him.

“I can only say that the Congress Party members should clean their head of ‘modiphobia’. The Modi factor is very much recognized by the people, and, there is a Modi wave in the country. They should better mend their ways because no matter how much mud they would fling over Modi, it will not stick to him,” she said.

“It is time the Congress recognises its own folly rather than attach upon a person who has shown great resilience and determination to do his duties towards the nation,” she added.

Attacking human right activist Teeta Setalvad, Lekhi said, “This was a false and fabricated plea ; the court has seen through the game which was played by a so-called activist who tried to misuse the sympathy of an old lady who lost her husband.

Earlier today, a district court rejected the plea of Zakia Jafri against Special Investigation Team (SIT) closure report that gave a clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in 2002 Gujarat riots.

Reacting on the decision, Jafri had said, “I will not give up my fight but I have to do more things. I will approach the High Court. I have not lost hope yet.

Magistrate BJ Ganatra had earlier said he would deliver the order on October 28, but it was deferred to December 2, and then to December 26.

Zakia Jafri is the wife of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, who was among 69 people killed in the Gulbarg Society massacre here during the 2002 riots.

SIT had submitted its report on February 8 last year, clearing Modi’s name in any conspiracy.

She had filed a petition against the SIT report in April seeking its rejection and an order to file charge sheet against Modi and others during the 2002 riots.
