Congress working hard to check rebellion in Madhya Pradesh ahead of polls

Hectic efforts are on by Congress leadership in Madhya Pradesh to quell dissidence ahead of November 25 Assembly elections and so far at least ten rebels have withdrawn from the fray ahead of tomorrow's deadline.

Top leaders, including Union Minister Harish Rawat, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh and General Secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Prakash have been tasked with making rebels withdraw their nominations, sources said. Though the sulking leaders who have filed nominations against official Congress candidates are not significant in their political stature, the party is making all out efforts to nip rebellion in bud.

The senior leaders have so far managed to win back at least ten rebels who have thrown their hats in the ring after being denied ticket to contest, they said.

According to sources, the dissidents could queer the pitch for official Congress candidates though they may not be able to win the elections on their own.

State party chief Kantilal Bhuria and Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Ajay Singh are holding talks with the sulking leaders apparently to avoid any risk to the prospects of the party which is out of power in the state for long.

As the last date for withdrawal of nominations is tomorrow, Congress is going overboard to ensure that maximum rebels fall in the line, sources added.
