Congress worker's house attacked in Kashmir

Some unknown gunmen barged inside the house of Congress party activist Khazir Mohammad Naikoo in north Kashmir's Baramulla district Friday evening and opened heavy fire upon their family members.

In the firing that started around 9:05 pm, two persons identified as Nazir Ahmad Naikoo son of Khazir Mohammad and his cousin Shabir Ahmad, a student, suffered critical injuries, and the duo were immediately shifted to Sub-district hospital, Sopore, where Nazir, a contactor by profession succumbed to injuries. Later, Shabir was referred to SKIMS Soura in critical condition.

Soon after the incident, army's Rashtriya Rifles (22 RR) and Special operations Group (SOG) rushed to the spot.

The joint team of these two forces cordoned off the whole area and launched a search to nab the assailants.

Army and police personnel said they had arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Abu Hanzala during a raid from a hideout in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Friday.
