Congress wants PM to discuss national security with political parties

Congress on Wednesday demanded an all-party meeting to deliberate on national security issues in the wake of latest terrorist attacks. Within ten days, the party spokesperson RS Surjewala said, there have been two major terror incidents with the attackers coming from Pakistan. In August alone, there have been, 11 ceasefire violations, resulting in the death of five soldiers. In July, 18 such ceasefire violations have taken place. The Congress spokesman claimed that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over, there have been 800 ceasefire violations along the international border as well as along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

"PM must decide how to tackle the intelligence failure, if any, because two terrorist incidents have taken place. How to contain a hostile neighbour, how to stop terrorism from taking human lives, how to contain terror and terrorism from being exported from Pakistan to Indian soil and how to ensure safety and security of citizens living in these states neighbouring border of Pakistan," he said.

Surjewala said signals continue to emanate that Modi government is soft on terror or is unable to tackle terror in an appropriate fashion and manner.

He said while Congress has always stood for good bilateral relationship and solution of all problems through mutual talks but in light of these grave provocations, PM, home minister and Modi government must decide what should be the contours of talks with Pakistan in light of this incontrovertible evidence.
