Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday said that his party would very soon stage a protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government for amending the Land Acquisition Act

"It is true that the Congress along with other large number of organizations are planning a protest against the Land Acquisition Act. We are happy the awareness for the Land Acquisition Act is getting widely spread across the country," he told the media here.

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had said on Monday that the Land Acquisition Ordinance brought by the Centre was not in favour of the farmers.

"This is not only a movement of Anna Hazare but everyone is angry. We [Congress] brought the Act [Land Acquisition] for the betterment of the farmers of this country that too with the support of the BJP," Aiyar told ANI here.

"The common people know as to how their rights have been violated," he added.

Meanwhile, veteran social activist Anna Hazare began his protest at the Jantar Mantar here earlier in the day against the amendments in the Land Acquisition.

Speaking at the protest venue, Hazare criticized the ruling BJP at the Centre over its promise of 'achhe din' during the Lok Sabha polls last year. Hazare said there is a need to create awareness as very few farmers are aware of the bill.
