Condemning the poster demanding the resignation of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, party leader and former Kanpur MP Sriprakash Jaiswal on Sunday said the act was a conspiracy against the party.

"I condemn this act; it's a plot against us. Rahulji is our leader, I refuse to believe that the man behind this act is a member of the party," said Jaiswal. Another party leader Har Prakash Agnihotri confirmed that the Congress worker responsible for the act had been expelled.

"The man behind this act has been expelled from party for six years. We will ensure that he does not join the party again," said Agnihotri. Igniting fresh controversy, a Congress worker had on Saturday put up a poster in Kanpur, demanding the resignation of the party vice president with the words "Resign Rahul, and give somebody else a chance". The poster had the picture of Sriprakash Jaiswal.
