The Congress Party on Thursday dubbed the Centre's move to terminate suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt from service as 'extremely unfortunate' and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a message to the bureaucracy that if anybody would go against his wishes then he would witness the same fate.

Congress leader Rashid Alvi said it appears as if Narendra Modi is the country's Prime Minister as well as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. "He has given this message to the bureaucracy that if anybody will go against the wishes of Narendra Modi ji, he will meet the same fate of Mr. Bhatt," he added.

Bhatt, who had taken on the Gujarat government headed by Narendra Modi over the 2002 post-Godhra riots, has been sacked on the ground of "unauthorised absence" from service. Bhatt, a 1988 batch IPS officer, was earlier under suspension since 2011 for unauthorised absence from service.
