Targeting the government, Congress on Saturday took to social media to highlight its "U-turns" over various issues, including black money and dealing with Pakistan and China, and will release a booklet on the same next week.
The party launched the campaign against the government on Twitter under the theme "#UTurn Sarkar". The first hashtag "#BJPBlackMoneyDhokha" was posted on the wall of AICC Communication Department Chairman Ajay Maken's Twitter account in the morning. It began with a catch phrase "six months have passed; It's U-turn Government (chheh mahine paar; U-turn Sarkar).
The next two posts on Maken's wall were "2nd #UTurn #UTurnSarkar 'On China only talk and no walk #UTurnSarkar #3 Unprecedented 400 Ceasefire violations by Pakistan. 17 civilians killed this year-Zero last year!" Maken also gave a link of his blog on Twitter in which he has slammed the government over ceasefire violations on India's borders with China and Pakistan. While the AICC leader had on Friday tweeted about the campaign alleging that the BJP government at Centre has "performed at an average, one #UTurn every week", a senior functionary on Saturday said that the party will release the booklet on the issue on next Monday or Tuesday.
The party had earlier come out with a booklet, titled '100 Days of Misrule', charging the Narendra Modi government with not fulfilling any of the promises made during election campaigns. Modi was then accused of being a "dream merchant" selling "false dreams" to the citizens. The party has, for last few months, been attacking the NDA government over the issue of black money and rise in food price basket from time to time besides accusing it of failing on economy as well as foreign affairs front. In his blog, Maken accused the BJP of doing a "flip flop" on international relations with Pakistan alleging it cost India dearly.
Seeking to highlight the "contradictions" in BJP’s stand on Pakistan when it was in Opposition and when it came to power, Maken quoted several remarks made by Modi in public rallies and his tweets in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls. In the blog, Maken recalled that Modi had said on August 11 last year that the UPA governmemt cannot provide security to the nation and was "neck deep in vote bank politics" and questioned the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over it wondering how can "a country of 125 crore is silently tolerating..."
"On Aug 11, 2013 Modi tweeted – “India is going through a troubled situation. China intrude our borders, Pakistan kills our soldiers time & again but Centre doesn’t act!”, Maken reminded. On Aug 06, 2013 Modi tweeted – “From China’s intrusions to Pakistan’s ambushes- UPA Government has been absolutely lax in securing Indian borders. When will Centre wake up?”," Maken recalled. Contending that there were "contradictions" between the promises and performance of BJP, Maken quoted an August 27 statement of this year where BSF DG said that the cross border firing between India and Pakistan was the heaviest so far and worst after 1971 war.
"Modi made no mention of ceasefire violations in this year assembly poll – As opposition party, Modi in almost every rally raised the issue of handling of Pakistan affairs and attacked the Manmohan Singh government for failing to stop Pakistani aggression and its failure to prevent loss of precious lives on the border areas. "The BJP’s then PM candidate (Modi) had boldly said that ‘one needs a 56-inch chest’ to stop Pak’s aggression. But now he seems to have forgotten this rhetoric because of the huge failure of present government in tackling Paikstan," he said.
The Congress leader rued that when the Opposition party aired its concerns at the unprecedented loss of civilian lives and ceasefire violations, "Urban Development Minister Shri Venkaiah Naidu said that the opposition is politicizing ceasefire violations by Pakistan." Quoting from media headlines, he said," Unprecedented, more than 400 Ceasefire Violations have taken place this year. ...17 civilians have been killed this year alone as compared to zero casualty last year and also in 2011."
