The BJP and the Congress fought it out over pictures of Rahul Gandhi's Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. A day after the BJP accused Gandhi of sharing photoshopped posts of the Yatra, the Congress party took to Twitter to post proof of the trek.

"Leaving all the haters behind, Congress President @RahulGandhi sets the pace during his #KailashYatra. Can you keep up," tweeted Congress's official handle. It tweeted photos of Gandhi and a screenshot of his FitBit which showed that Gandhi had taken 46,433 steps, burned 4,466 calories and climbed 203 flights of stairs. The feat took him across 34.31 kilometres and took him 463 minutes.

Soon after, Gandhi tweeted a short video clip of Mount Kailash with the caption, "Shiva is the Universe."

The tweets were followed by visuals from his trip being released by several media outlets, including some videos. The tweets come as a proof of his Yatra, after the BJP said that the photos were photoshopped or borrowed from elsewhere.

A Union minister said that a photo of Gandhi with a fellow pilgrim was "photoshopped" as the shadow of the walking stick Gandhi was carrying did not have a shadow.

Sources said that Gandhi is on the trek with 20 fellow pilgrims, and is accompanied by two SPG security men.

Gandhi has been attacked by the BJP since he took on the trek. At first, the BJP stoked a controversy about Gandhi eating meat in a hotel in Nepal before leaving for the pilgrimage.

Gandhi has been trying to reinvent his image as a devout Hindu to counter BJP's attacks on his party over appeasement politics.
