The Congress marked Social Media Day, celebrated on the last Saturday of June since 2010, by releasing a flippant video showing its members waggishly urging Prime Minister Modi to unfollow trolls online, while mimickingThe Beatles hit Let It Be.

"Tired of online trolls, the women (and a few men) of the Congress social media team have put together a video making a collective plea to the Prime Minister @narendramodi this Social Media Day. Do watch #PrimeMinisterUnfollowTrolls," the Congress tweeted.

The video with the background score to the tune of Let It Be. The rescripted lyrics go: "When I find myself logged onto Facebook, sanghi trolls come to me, spewing words of venom, trolling me... And in my hour of outrage, when I am tweeting for the world to see, they give my mother rape threats, trolling me."

Radhika Khera, the party's national media coordinator, also started an 'unfollow trolls challenge', nominating PM Modi and union minister Piyush Goyal to brush abusive trolls off their accounts.

"This Social Media Day let's all social media users take a pledge to keep the virtual world clean and abuse free! Start by nominating two people to unfollow abusive trolls. I nominate Narendra Modi and Piyush Goyal to unfollow their abusive trolls," she tweeted.

The Congress has been aggressively taking on saffron trolls, especially after Sushma Swaraj was trolled for ordering the transfer of a Lucknow-based passport officer when an interfaith couple tweeted to her saying the officer asked the Muslim husband to convert to Hinduism.
