The Congress has planned a massive national rally at Delhi's Ram Lila grounds on April 29 to reflect upon the prevailing situation in the country that it said is full of frustration where people are feeling stifled and afraid because of an overall atmosphere of hatred and violence.

Organising general secretary of Congress, Ashok Gehlot said, the decision was taken at a meeting of In-charges and general secretaries of all states called on Saturday.

Gehlot asserted that on Congress president Rahul Gandhi's directions, at the rally the Congress will not target individuals and rather take up ideological issues and policies.

"We will bring out and reflect the angst of public against fake promises of Achhey Din. No section of the society has felt even a semblance of Achhey Din and instead everyone is feeling sad, afraid and is fearful.

Businesses are in distress, economic situation is in tatters, constitutional institutions are getting weak - be it the judiciary, parliament, RBI or Income Tax which is being misused,"said Gehlot.

Gehlot claimed that the Modi government and the BJP is finding itself in a serious problem as nothing is working in its favour because of its bad anti-people policies and that reflecting in the statements of its leaders like Amit Shah whose recent statement of comparing the opposition with animals was a sign of frustration.

Through the rally that is being organised two weeks ahead of Karnataka assembly polls, the party hopes to channelise the general atmosphere of despair and despondency into assertive angst against the Modi government and the BJP, a Congress leader said.

"It is a kind of take off for a build up to test the waters and will be steadily strengthened leading to several assembly polls and finally culminate in 2019 Lok Sabha elections," said a Congress leader.
