Congress is planning to take agtitation over farm distress from the poll-bound states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh to the national Captial and cornet the Modi government. Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress, the party's recently revived farmer cell, has lined up two major events in Delhi, including a mega rally in Delhi-NCR and a national convention of farmer outfits.

The party will kick off its agitation on October 23 with a Parliament siege under the banner of the Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress and supported by 40-odd farmer organisations. This will be followed by participation in a national convention of farmer organisations from across the country on November 30 and Congress President Rahul Gandhi's mega rally early next year. Congress President Rahul Gandhi may participate in the agitation to lay siege to Parliament.

Congress stir will come just weeks after Bharatiya Kisan Union-led Kisan Rally of over 50,000 farmers clashing with police at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border on October 2.

The farmers' cell Chairman Nana Patole said these protests will be a reminder to the Prime Minister and the Central government about their failure to fulfill 'grand promises'. "We want to remind the PM of the lofty statements he made in his first speech in Central Hall of Parliament. He had said this government is of and for the poor and the farmers but their actions have been exactly to the contrary. Farmers are angry about poor remuneration they are getting for their hard work," said Nana Patole.

The party has planned Kisan rallies in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan to woo farmers and the Rahul Gandhi is going to address the next on in Chhattisgarh on October 22, Patole added.
