Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday morning in New Delhi triggering a lot of political reactions back home. Leaders of the Opposition raised eyebrows over the topics of discussion between the two.

Mamata told reporters after the meeting that a number of issues of the state had been discussed. “Central funding of over Rs 10,000 crore has been pending which I have requested him to release. He said he would look into it. We have already been facing a cash crunch repaying the loan taken by our previous regime. So the unreleased money has posed as a major impediment to developmental work in the state,” she said. She also added that there had been no discussion on the Teesta water sharing issue.

In Bengal, CPIM state secretary tweeted asking whether Mamata had asked the PM about the increasing power of the saffron brigade in Bengal. "Did CM dare to discuss with d PM #Sarada #Narada #DeMonetisation RSS communal activities and other issues plaguing the state? Pls answer’, he wrote.

Leader of Opposition  and Congress MLA Abdul Mannan said there was nothing wrong in the meet and that he was sceptical about the topics of discussion. “There is nothing wrong in Mamata meeting the PM, but the people of Bengal know about the unholy nexus alliance between the two parties. They feel that Mamata would be trying to find a way out of the Saradha and Narada scams that her party senior leaders are involved in,” Mannan said, talking to DNA.

Senior BJP leader and co-convenor for Bengal, Suresh Pujari said that people who were raising eyebrows should come out with proofs of their allegations. “In a federal set up, it is quite natural that the CM will meet the PM in this kind of a visit. As far as the investigations into the scams is concerned, the High Court has already ordered a CBI probe into the Narada case and CBI is also looking into the Saradha scam under the Supreme Court order. Law will take its own course and speculations that there will be an understanding between the CM and the PM are unfounded,” Pujari told DNA.
