Salman Nizami, a senior Congress leader in Kashmir, was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday after the former had questioned what sacrifices the prime minister had made for India.

On December 7, Nizami tweeted, “Rahul Gandhi, son of Rajiv Gandhi; sacrificed his life for India. Grandson of Indira Gandhi; sacrificed her life for India; Great grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru; fought for India’s independence. Narendra Modi… son of ? Grandson of ? Sacrifice?”

Nizami has a private Twitter handle, but the tweet garnered enough traction, prompting PM Modi to raise his tweet during a rally on Saturday. “Congress leader & close aide of Rahul Gandhi, Salman Nizami asks on Twitter- Modi, who is your father, who is your mother? He calls for Azad Kashmir & says 'har ghar se Afzal nikalega'. He calls our Army rapists. Does Congress want to win election with the help of such people?" PM Modi asked, adding that even enemies don't question your lineage.

The BJP’s Twitter handle, while quoting PM Modi, also shared Nizami’s tweet, along with a tweet he had made in 2013 after Afzal Guru was hanged for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack. “Tum kitnay Afzal maaro gay, har ghar say Afzal Niklay ga! (sic),” Nizami tweeted then.

Earlier this year, Nizami had faced a defamation case after Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. At the time, in a series of demeaning tweets, he said, “Those celebrating #YogiAdityanath should remember that this country is great only because of its diversity, not coz of these bigots.” And on March 19, Nizami had tweeted, “Zakir Naik is being hounded despite no evidence agnst him. Yogi Aditynath hs cases of murdr, riots registrd agnst him. (sic)”
