Uttar Pradesh Congress unit chief Nirmal Khatri on Saturday described the Akhilesh Yadav-led government in the state as one which is disinterested in punishing the accused.

While commenting on the Mohanlalganj rape case in the city, Khatri said : "They are not interested in giving punishment to the accused; whenever Samajwadi Party (SP) comes to power they free the convicts. They pressurize people who are against them and are been instructed to let the accused go scot free."

"If we think on Party chief's words then it shows that their party is used to it; either it is in the case of Mohanlal Ganj or Badaun case, it is just increasing. In two years in Uttar Pradesh they have made such an impression that if fresh elections will be there then they cannot even get ten seats," Khatri added.

According to media reports three men have been held for the horrific gangrape and murder of a woman in Lucknow, which took place on Wednesday night. The victim a mother of two was working at a hospital and her body was found in Mohanlalganj area, barely 8 km from Jabrauli village where former US President Bill Clinton was visiting.

Autopsy reports have confirmed that the assailants had inserted a sharp object into her private parts besides inflicting injuries on her face and eyes. The police believe it was a 'hate crime'.
