In a bid to counter the Narendra Modi government on the alleged Rafale deal scam, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday constituted a special task force.

The main idea behind the task force is to make the Rafale deal a corner stone of the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. To this effect, the Congress formed a 6-member group who will address press conferences across India and organise protests and spread the message at ground level. The group is a mix of old and young leaders.

Congress Media Cell Chairman Randeep Surjewala will head the Task Force and the members are Jaipal Reddy, Shakti Singh Gohil, Arjun Modwadia, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Jaiveer Shergill and Pawan Khera. It also marks the return of Jaipal Reddy in organisational politics after absence of 4 years.

"It was decided that corruption, scams of the Modi government particularly the Rafale scam will be taken to people of India. In the next 30 days, Congress workers will do district and state level demonstrations. We will ensure a fair probe, independent probe, a JPC is constituted immediately. We will not be deterred and pushed back," party's chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters here.

In a meeting held today at Congress War Room with CLP leaders and PCC heads, Congress President Rahul Gandhi emphasised on the importance to expose BJP on Rafale Scam.

Earlier on August 10, the Congress MP MP Sunil Jakhar created a flutter in the Lok Sabha, saying "I can make a better Rafale (fighter aircraft), please give me the contract." He had made this caustic remark attacking the BJP-led government while waiving a paper replica of the fighter aircraft during the Zero Hour, when Congress members were in the Well raising slogans on the issue.

In his speech later, Jakhar also wondered how India's Foreign Secretary did not know about the Rafale deal but the companies knew about it. "This is a breach of the Official Secrets Act," he charged.
