Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Saturday attacked his Congress counterpart Rahul Gandhi wondering if he has formed an international "mahagathbandhan" (grand alliance) with Pakistan against Prime Minister Narendra Modi as both are saying "Modi hatao" (remove Modi).

Shah's sharp attack on Gandhi came as a Pakistan minister used Congress leader's tweets attacking Modi on Rafale deal to target the Indian government.

Pakistan's Minister of Information and Broadcasting Fawad Hussain Chaudhary had tagged Gandhi's tweets attacking Modi over the Rafale deal to say that they explain the "BJP-led tirade against Pakistan".

"These tweets explain BJP led Tirade against Pakistan, Apni Jang Khud Lado #RafaelDeal," Chaudhary said.

In his tweets, Rahul Gandhi had alleged that Modi and Anil Ambani jointly carried out a "surgical strike" on the defence forces. The BJP and the Congress are involved in a bitter war of words over the alleged corruption in the Rafale fighter aircraft deal.

"The PM and Anil Ambani jointly carried out ... SURGICAL STRIKE on the Indian Defence forces. Modi Ji you dishonoured the blood of our martyred soldiers. Shame on you. You betrayed India's soul (sic)," Gandhi tweeted.

Another tweet of Rahul that was used by Hussain had claimed that the PM personally negotiated and changed the Rafale deal behind closed doors.

"The PM personally negotiated & changed the #Rafale deal behind closed doors. Thanks to François Hollande, we now know he personally delivered a deal worth billions of dollars to a bankrupt Anil Ambani. The PM has betrayed India. He has dishonoured the blood of our soldiers," Gandhi had tweeted on Friday.

Latching on to Hussain's tweet, Shah tweeted, "Rahul Gandhi says ‘Modi Hatao’. Pakistan says ‘Modi Hatao’. Now Pakistan also supports Rahul Gandhi’s baseless allegations against PM Modi. Is Congress forming an International Mahagathbandhan against PM Modi? #NaPakNaCongress."

Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused PM Modi of being "corrupt", saying former French president Francois Hollande's remarks on Reliance Defence shows "clear cut" corruption in the Rafale deal.

"Now, what the ex-President of France is saying is that the Prime Minister of India is a 'thief'. That is what this (Hollande's) statement is saying," he said.

The Congress chief's sharp attack on Modi came a day after Hollande was quoted as saying by French media that the Indian government proposed Anil Ambani's Reliance Defence as the partner for Dassault Aviation in the Rs 58,000 crore fighter jet deal.

Union Law Minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad attacked the Congress president saying he was "playing into the hands of Pakistan."

Prasad questioned why Gandhi is forcing the government in divulging the details and other specifications of the fighter jet deal. He said that this would alert India’s enemies.
