The Congress has demanded a white paper on the BJP government's order to destroy all old files, pointing out that some of those files that were weeded out were related to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. A white paper is an authoritative report, made by government or businesses, which helps the reader understand an issue, solve a problem, or make a decision.

The Congress dismissed Home Minister Rajnath Singh's statement saying that out of the 11,000 files that were destroyed, none of them were related to Gandhi's assassination.

According to Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed, it was a planned way to change India's history. He alleged that those files contained events from before and after Gandhi's assassination and had been destroyed to hide the past from the new generation.

Ahmed said that an investigation is necessary to assert what kind of files were destroyed in the process and what level of authority took the decision. After he made the demand, in the same statement he also stated that his demand was based on some media reports and the government should clear the air of doubt.

The files that was destroyed were those where after Gandhi's assassination Sardar Patel raised questions about the same in the parliamentary session and believed that the RSS should be banned.

To this, a question was also raised where the Congress was asked about why did they not archive those files. In return, Ahmed just repeated the same demand of a white paper which will clear things out.
