The battle for Karnataka is heating up with both Congress and BJP using everything at their disposal to make a point on social media. GIFs, memes and live-tweeting have been employed by both sides to attack each other in a highly charged up campaign.

On Friday, Congress hit out at UP CM Yogi Adityanath who was criticised for campaigning in Karnataka while the state of UP was hit by a storm. When Adityanath left the campaign midway, the Congress Twitter handle wrote: “We are glad that Mr Ajay Bisht was able to take some lessons of good governance from CM @siddaramaiah and is headed back to be with the people of Uttar Pradesh in their time of need.”

However, many Twitter users felt that calling Yogi Adityanath by his birthname was uncalled for and expressed their displeasure.

Over 73 people were killed and over 100 were injured, most of them in Agra division, when a storm hit Uttar Pradesh in the wee hours of Thursday.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had rapped the Chief Minister for campaigning in Karnataka leaving behind storm victims. BSP supremo Mayawati had also called the CM 'insensitive' to the sufferings of storm victims.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday slammed his Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah stating that the latter is supporting the growth of Jihadi elements in the state.

Continuing his tirade against the Siddaramaiah-led government, Adityanath said people in power who support them (Jihadi elements) should be removed.

‘Siddaramaiah’s government is letting Jihadi elements in the state grow. Be it Uttar Pradesh or Karnataka, terrorism should not have space in our country,’ Adityanath said while addressing an election rally in Bagalkot district.

Later Siddaramaiah took a swipe at the Uttar Pradesh chief minister for not being available at a time when his state had been hit by a massive thunderstorm which claimed over 70 lives.

‘At least 64 people have lost their lives due to a storm in Uttar Pradesh. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. I am sorry your CM is needed here in Karnataka. I am sure he will return soon and attend to his work there,’ Siddaramaiah tweeted.

Karnataka will go to polls on May 12 to elect its representatives for the 225-member assembly. The results will be out on May 1
