The Congress has accused Udaipur divisional commissioner Bhawani Singh Detha of working as a BJP agent and demanded the Election Commission of India (ECI) to remove him from the post immediately.

A delegation of Congress leaders raised the demand while submitting a memorandum to the election officers on Friday. “Detha is posted as Udaipur commissioner for over last three years which is against the norms set by the election body. Also he is working as BJP agent. The commission must immediately remove him and post another officer,” said Sushil Sharma, PCC general secretary, who handed over a memorandum, to chief electoral officer Anand Kumar, addressed to the ECI.

Detha, according to the service records, was posted in October, 2014 as the divisional commissioner and he would be completing four years in October end. The 1999 batch officer is native of Jodhpur district and served on important posts including collector in district and director in various departments in his 18 years of service.

Allegations against bureaucrats are not new to the state. Many a time the political parties, both Congress and BJP, have came out in open and levelled serious charges against the bureaucrats for having biased attitude. Such allegations become stronger whenever the elections are nearing.

Before 2013, when Congress was in the power, then the Opposition BJP had openly taken on then Chief Secretary CK Mathew, accusing him for working as Congress worker.

Mathew was made the chief secretary in last year of Gehlot government’s tenure and was zealously implementing Gehlot’s flagship schemes. The BJP had alleged that Mathew had issued orders to implement the Food Security Act in Rajasthan well after October 4 evening when the Chief Election Commissioner had announced polls in the state.

Blame Game Continues

The BJP had also demanded the removal of three officers including then Director General of Police HC Meena, whose brother Namo Narain Meena was then Union Minister of State for Finance, and also then Additional Director General Law and Order Navdeep Singh, whose wife Param Navdeep was a sitting Congress MLA. After the allegations, Mathew went on leave and the election commission appointed CS Rajan as officiating chief secretary.
